New Recycling & Trash Program begins May 1, 2025
The City and Town of Geneva are proud to offer the Resource Recovery Park (RRP) as a service to residents — promoting sustainability and conservation while covering most daily operational costs through modest user fees. We can only move toward a sustainable future together!

Who Can use the Facility
For residential use only- not for commercial or business waste
Must be a City or Town of Geneva resident
Required:
Recycling Sticker, Annual (for all recycling services, scrap metal, food waste & yard materials) - $30, good through December 31, 2026
Trash Punch Punch Card (disposal of 2 30-gallon bags per punch) - $90
Prices subject to change. City residents must purchase their stickers and punch cards from the City Clerk's office at City Hall. Town residents must purchase their stickers and punch cards from the Town Hall Clerk's Office.
What Goes Where?
Trash Compactor (Blue Compactor):
Use for household trash in 30-gallon sealed bags. Examples include:
- Styrofoam
- Napkins & paper towels
- Snack wrappers & packets
- Plastic wrap & utensils
- Dirty paper cups/plates
- Flat glass & ceramics
- Aerosol Cans
Do NOT place in trash compactor:
- Yard Waste
- Furniture or building materials
- Electronics or appliances
- Hazardous waste (paint, bulbs, batteries, meds)
TIP: Keep food and organic waste out of the trash to reduce landfill odors and emissions. Ask us about food scrap collection or backyard composting options!
Ontario County holds household hazardous waste events twice a year. Visit ontariocountyrecycles.org or contact the Ontario County Clerk's Office for dates.
Recycling Bin (Blue Roll-Off):
Accepted items (must be clean and empty):
- Glass bottles & jars (any color)
- Aluminum/tin cans, foil
- Plastic containers #1-#7 (Resin Identification Codes)
- Cardboard (must be broken down)
- Paper: office paper, junk mail, envelopes, newspaper, magazines
Scrap Metal Bin (Red Roll-Off):
Accepted:
- Scrap metal (steel, iron, aluminum, copper)
NOT Accepted: Plastics, large appliances, anything with freon or hazardous content.
Fix-it Clinics are held twice a year! Learn more at townofgenevany.gov or inquire at Town Hall.
Food Waste (Green Totes):
Accepted compostable items:
- Fruits & vegetables
- Bones, meat & dairy
- Coffee grounds, eggshells
- Shredded paper

Yard Debris (Concrete Block Bins):
Accepted:
- Leaves
- Shrub prunings
- Branches (max 4ft long, 6in diameter)
NO plastic bags allowed. Paper/leaf bags are available (while supplies last) at the City Clerk's Office, 1st Floor. City Hall, 47 Castle St.
Not Accepted at the RRP:
- Construction & Demolition debris: lumber, drywall, shingles, bricks, concrete, tile, asphalt, plumbing fixtures, insulation, empty buckets, etc.
- Furniture, rugs, mattresses, tires, large stumps, rocks, stone
- Plastics not listed under recyclables
- Commercial/business waste
- Hazardous materials outside of county disposal events
Important Reminders:
- Geneva City & Town residents only. No business or commercial waste
- Do not dump items outside the gates- violators will be prosecuted
- Do not remove items from containers- all items placed into the containers will become property of the City and Town. Removal of items from these bins for any reason will be considered theft
- Report illegal dumping or suspicious activity
