Deceased Waterfowl – Avian Influenza Winter 2025
DPW has received several calls regarding dead geese along the lakefront and at lakefront park. Staff has communicated with the NYSDEC and is prepared to safely remove and properly dispose found geese from city property. Residents that experience dead waterfowl at their property are encouraged to contact NYSDEC Reg 8 Wildlife offices in Avon NY at 585-226-5380. Please wear protective equipment such as Nitrile or Latex gloves when handling and use trash bags to dispose of any carcass in your trash receptacle.
Electrical
We are aware of recent pedestrian pole strikes and related property damage. Poles at the South East corner of Castle St. at Main St. and the North East corner of Castle St. at Exchange St. have been damaged. Pedestrian signals will be off in these areas until replacement parts can be secured and installed.
Weather
We are monitoring weather conditions and are prepared to respond with all available resources. Salt stockpiles and deliveries state wide have become limited. Crews are continuing to limit salt spreading to main thoroughfares, intersections and hills. As a temporary measure to increase traction and making street surfaces safer to drive on, we may consider applying course road sand.
Sidewalks
Property owners please remember to keep sidewalks clean of snow and ice within 24 hours after a snowfall. Commercial establishments shall be kept free of snow and ice between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM
**Shout out to all of our departments and staff that have a hand in this yearly major event.
