Geneva Grows event

Come learn about the native plants growing throughout downtown Geneva and along the lakefront. If you take a closer look, you’ll also see the beneficial insects – pollinators and natural enemies of pests – these plants are supporting. Staff from the New York State Integrated Pest Management Program at Cornell AgriTech, members of Ontario County 4-H, and local community members will offer tours and demonstrations and answer questions about:

  • Choosing and growing native plants

  • Recognizing native plants vs. weeds

  • Recognizing the beneficial insects all around us

  • Using native plants to support beneficial insects and wildlife in your own yard or garden

  • Many benefits of growing native plants and creating green spaces

Activities are available for the whole family and include:

  • walking tours of native plants around the City

  • insect scavenger hunt

  • Ontario County 4-H members showcasing native ‘habitatscaping’ opportunities for families (Aug 17)

  • seed giveaways

  • practical information from Cornell, local native plant sellers, and local organizations

Department of Public Works Updates:

Traffic Counters (Tube or Camera setups) are being placed by the NYSDOT on various streets.

NYSDOT and DPW have recently received inquiries regarding the cameras being setup by the Department’s traffic count contractor. In response to recent questions, please see the below information:

Cameras should have a label with the name “NDS” (National Data Services) on them and should look like the pictures below. There has been an increase in the utilization of these cameras as they are a great alternative to tube setups and offer many benefits, including being safer to install and for the traveling public, lower cost, improved data accuracy, and less interference with snow and ice operations.

If you have any questions or comments, please reach out to Engineering office at 315-789-3101 or email us at complaints@geneva.ny.us
