no sign stealing

Political Signage Reminder for all residents and candidates:

In the City of Geneva, political signs are defined as a temporary sign announcing or supporting political candidates or issues in connection with any national, state or local election.

Temporary, nonpermanent posters covering such things as political events, sporting events, shows and elections shall not be displayed until four weeks prior to the event and must be removed within two weeks after the event.

In the lakefront district only, under (350-91.4) political signs are to be:

• located entirely on private property pursuant to the owner's consent

• are clearly marked with the name, address and telephone number of the person responsible for the removal of such sign;

• are erected no more than 45 days prior to such election; and are removed within 7 days following such election.

The Lakefront District (LF-C and LF-R) is shown here: https://cityofgenevany.com/Docume.../View/349/Zoning-Map-PDF

State regulations state no sign, regardless of district or type, shall be maintained at any location where, by reason of its position, size, shape, content or color, it may obstruct, impair, obscure, interfere with the view of or be confused with any traffic control sign, signal or device or where it may interfere with, mislead or confuse traffic.

Signs determined to be in violation of the ordinances or regulations above will be permanently removed by City staff.

Signs located on City property may be temporarily moved for property maintenance (mowing, repairs, etc.) and replaced upon completion of maintenance.  The City is not responsible for any damage done to signs on City property.

#getoutandvote

early voting 2023
City of Geneva residents are encouraged to turn over their November 2023 ballot and vote in favor or opposition to the new City Council proposal that would stagger the terms of council seats. As it is right now the nine-member board is elected every four years.
If proposal is approved by voters, the mayor and councilors representing wards 2, 4 and 6 would be elected to two-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2024. Councilors for wards 1, 3 and 5 would be elected to four-year terms. The at-large candidate who receives the most votes, would receive a four-year term, while the second-leading vote-getter would get a two-year term.
Beginning in 2025, the mayor, the councilor- at-large serving a two-year term, and councilors representing wards 2, 4 and 6 would be up for election again, with those victors receiving four-year terms. This would mean that ½ of the council has the potential of turning over every two years.
If proposal is rejected, the next council election would not happen until 2027. This would mean that the full council has the potential of turning over every four years.

october city manager report

November 2023 City Manager Report:

Housing Session: I have received additional information from the County about the potential of holding a special City of Geneva work session around housing in early December. This meeting will be for council as well as members of the board of supervisors to dive into the housing report and begin to lay out action steps for turning the report into changes in Geneva. The steering committee on housing at the County level is meeting in the next few weeks and will discuss their ability to support sessions like these. City staff have offered to co-facilitate this work session.

Flooding in Geneva Public Meeting: Our Public Safety Departments will host a community meeting the week of November 13 on the impacts of flooding in the City of Geneva. The time and location are being confirmed. Myself along with members from DPW, Fire, and Police will be on hand to discuss storm damage prevention, mitigation, and impacts. We will discuss what the city staff are doing on these efforts and measures residents can take in minimizing the impact of significant rain storms in the City.

Community Compact: The Police Chief and I have both met with our Department of Justice representative to discuss community compact. Compact began as a response facilitated by the DOJ. The look of Compact in 2023/24 may be different as change has occurred since inception. DOJ will support us as we look at how to evolve compact to the Geneva of today. Chief Colton and I are committed to finding ways to enhance our department offerings through community input and involvement. DOJ involvement will begin early in 2024, in the meantime Chief and I are working on ways to move this work forward.

From the desk of our DPW Director:

debris pick up

Property owners and residents may place leaves and yard debris between the sidewalk and curb for DPW removal.   Please place all leaves grass clippings, weeds and small brush debris in paper bags.  Plastic bags will not be picked up. If interested, the City of Geneva will provide a limited amount of paper lawn/leaf bags which can be picked up at the City Clerk’s office located on the first floor of City Hall, 47 Castle Street during normal operating hours.

Loose brush and branch debris must be no longer than 4 feet and not more than 6 inches in diameter. Consolidating small piles of debris into larger piles will help expedite pick up.

Happening now, Fall YARD DEBRIS PICK UP!
